In the Wake of Tragedy, Local Artists Turn to Joy and Community Healing Through Weekend of Wellness Events

Just days after the devastating April 17 shooting at Florida State University, the heart of Tallahassee’s Railroad Square Art District became a space of community healing, creative expression, and collective joy. Led by local artist and wellness advocate Teylor Parks, in collaboration with emerging entrepreneurs, students, and creatives, the weekend featured journaling, painting, open mic, and outdoor yoga. The programming—hosted at Chill Roadside THC Bar & Stuff—offered residents a space to grieve, reconnect, and rebuild hope through mindful experiences and art.

“In moments like these, it’s easy to feel powerless,” said Parks. “But joy and healing are forms of resistance, too.”

This powerful act of community care not only provided space for reflection but reignited a sense of unity among residents, artists, and wellness practitioners across the city.
